WhatsApp took action and banned 7,420,748 accounts in India from August 1 to August 31, in compliance with the new IT Rules of 2021. The messaging app said, “3,506,905 of these accounts were proactively banned, before any reports from users.” WhatsApp stated that it received a total of 12,461 ban appeals and action was taken against two of these accounts.
